Yesterday I was talking with my sister making lunch plans for later this week. How about Friday I asked? She said, "Yeah, I can go Friday. Thats tight."
"Tight?"
My sister is five years older than me, which means she is no longer in her thirties. She's a stay-at-home-going-to-school mom with two kids. We are very different individuals. We have no sibling rivalry what so ever, I just found this so strange because it was really not that long ago when I was the one who knew the hip new slang, the one who could tell you what kind of martinis were offered when the newest hotspot opened up, could easily put away six tall vodka drinks, went dancing, slept late, shopped. Now she is skinnier than me, can drink more than me, spent new years eve out wasted in a bar with her husband while I was asleep at 9:30, she's recently been out for sushi with her girlfriends and now she's using phrases like 'thats tight'. I don't begrudge her, I just realized we have somehow switched universes. When did this happen?
P.S. 'Honey its tight like that' is a lyric from Clutch, a band I used to listen to when I was cool. Sorry. Does saying I was cool make me sound old and not cool?
